After being arrested in a corruption case, Chandrababu Naidu, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), said on Saturday that he has done nothing wrong, and the FIR does not mention his name. Meanwhile, his son, Nara Lokesh, and other party leaders have protested against his arrest.

Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday in connection with corruption related to the Kaushal Vikas scam. TDP legislator and former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and his son, Ganta Ravi Teja, were also arrested in the case.

After his arrest, Chandrababu Naidu maintained his innocence, saying, “I appeal to the people and party cadre, I have not done anything wrong today. But last night, officers came and arrested me without any evidence, without any mention of my role in the case, or any further details. This is very unfortunate and incorrect,” he said.

“For the past 45 years, I have served the Telugu people selflessly. I am ready to sacrifice my life for the welfare of the Telugu people. No force on Earth can stop me from serving the Telugu people,” Chandrababu Naidu posted on Twitter.

The case was first registered as a First Information Report (FIR) in 2021.

Chandrababu Naidu has been named as Accused No. 1 in the Kaushal Vikas scam case in Andhra Pradesh, involving over ₹371 crores. He is alleged to have masterminded the scam under the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC).

Details of the FIR and other documents were provided to Chandrababu Naidu’s lawyers, who had also demanded access to prima facie evidence, pointing out that his name was not mentioned in the FIR report.

Responding to the lawyers, police officials assured that they would provide all details within 24 hours.

As per the details, Chandrababu Naidu was scheduled to be shifted to Nandial hospital for a medical examination. However, he refused to go to the hospital and underwent a medical check-up at a camp instead.

Chandrababu Naidu will be presented before the court soon.

Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest warrant was issued under Section 50(1)(2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) on Saturday evening as the former Chief Minister was found taking rest in his vanity van after a public meeting in Nandala city of the state.

The charges against Naidu are non-bailable.

Commenting on his and Naidu’s arrest in the Kaushal Development Scheme case, Ganta Srinivasa Rao termed his arrest on Saturday as “unfortunate” and said that it was political vendetta.

“This is an unfortunate and shocking situation. Chandrababu Naidu is a senior-most politician in the country, and there has been no injustice during his rule. It is very shocking that a person who is among the people has been arrested. Police officers,” he said.
