A letter signed by Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani and other women MPs states that Gandhi behaved in an “indecent manner” and made “inappropriate gestures towards Smriti Irani when she was addressing the house.” The letter states, “The member not only disrespected women members in the house but also undermined the dignity of this esteemed house.”

Speaking to news agency ANI, BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje said, “This is the first time we have witnessed such behavior by any MP in the house. He made a flying kiss gesture towards women MPs in the house… this is unacceptable. We have complained to the Assembly Speaker to take action against him.”

Another BJP MP and Cabinet Minister Darshana Jardosh, speaking in parliamentary language, said, “When he (Rahul Gandhi) blew a flying kiss while leaving, we didn’t like it because it goes against our culture. We won’t tolerate such things in the Parliament.2

Don’t Miss – In the debate on the no-confidence motion, the Congress listed Rahul Gandhi as the first speaker, but he declined.

After being reinstated as a Lok Sabha MP, Rahul Gandhi addressed the Parliament on Wednesday and spoke to the house for the first time. Reminiscent of his famous hugging and winking episode during the final no-confidence motion against the Modi government in 2018, Gandhi made a similar gesture while leaving the Lok Sabha, as he did then.

Smriti Irani Targets Rahul Gandhi

Following Rahul Gandhi’s alleged ‘flying kiss’ gesture, Smriti Irani did not mention him directly but criticized him during her speech on the no-confidence motion. “The person who spoke before me misbehaved with me. Only a misogynistic man can make a flying kiss gesture towards women MPs. It shows where he comes from and what his family and party think of women. Such indecent behavior has never been seen in the country’s Parliament before.”
