GST on Gangajal: During festivals, the demand for Gangajal in India surges. With the approaching festivals, discussions have started about the possible imposition of GST on Gangajal. But does GST apply to Gangajal? Read on to get all the details.
The news of imposing GST on Gangajal has been refuted by the government.
The government has made it clear that from the beginning, all religious materials, including Gangajal, have been exempt from GST. Therefore, GST is not applicable to Gangajal.
The details of this matter were thoroughly discussed in the 14th and 15th meetings of the GST Council in May and June 2017, and at that time, religious items were not brought under the ambit of GST.
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) stated on the social media platform X that religious items have been exempt from GST since the implementation of GST in the country.
