India Imposes Ban on Import of Laptops and Computers: Report

India is home to several major companies that sell laptops in the market, such as Dell, Acer, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Apple Inc. Lenovo, and HP Inc. A significant portion of these laptops is imported from countries like China

According to a government notice issued on Thursday, in order to promote local manufacturing, India has immediately banned the import of laptops, tablets, and personal computers. The notice stated, “Permission for their import will be granted based on valid licenses.

From April to June, electronic imports, including laptops, tablets, and personal computers, amounted to $19.7 billion, showing a year-on-year increase of 6.25%.

This move aims to boost domestic manufacturing in India. Ali Akhtar Jafari, the former director of the Electronics Industry Manufacturers Association of Information Technology, said, “This is not just a push; it’s a big push.”
