According to a report published by ESPNcricinfo on Saturday (August 19), former fast bowler of Sri Lanka and Mumbai Indians, Lasith Malinga, has joined the Mumbai franchise as the bowling coach for the upcoming editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), taking over Shane Bond’s position.

Malinga, a four-time IPL champion with Mumbai Indians (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019) and a winner of the 2011 Champions League, has claimed 195 wickets in 139 matches for MI with an economy rate of 7.12.

Shane Bond joined MI in 2015 and played a crucial role as the main coach alongside Mahela Jayawardene for Rohit Sharma’s team. This partnership lasted from 2017 to 2022. On the other hand, Malinga, in 2022, became the fast bowling coach for Rajasthan Royals and worked with them for two seasons.

This move brings Malinga back to the Mumbai Indians’ dressing room, further strengthening their coaching staff for IPL 2024.
