Rohit Sharma’s Team India will miss the services of the fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in their crucial match against Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023, which is taking place in Sri Lanka
While Pakistan is the co-host for the Asia Cup 2023, India is playing all its tournament matches in Sri Lanka.
On Saturday, record-time champions India renewed their historic rivalry with Pakistan in the Asia Cup. Fast bowler Bumrah played a small role against Pakistan as he faced only 14 deliveries and scored 16 runs in the rain-affected match at the International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele. According to the latest developments, Rohit’s Team India will play their second match in the Asia Cup without the fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who has returned home for personal reasons.
Bumrah is in good fitness condition and is returning home for personal reasons. The fast bowler Bumrah had recently returned to the Indian team after a long injury layoff. The senior fast bowler had captained the Rohit-led India team in the Ireland series. Bumrah took a flight back to Mumbai on Sunday due to personal reasons with the permission of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). An official from the BCCI stated, “There are no fitness concerns for him.” It is expected that the 29-year-old fast bowler will return to the Team India squad for the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.
Bumrah Out, Shami In?
In the upcoming match against Nepal, experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami might replace Bumrah. Rohit and Company will face Nepal, who are playing in the Asia Cup for the first time, in Match No. 5 of the tournament at Pallekele on Monday. Senior fast bowler Shami was left out of India’s playing eleven in the opening match of the Asia Cup against Pakistan. The high-voltage clash between traditional rivals India and Pakistan was canceled due to rain in the Main in Blue tournament.
After the break in the innings due to rain, the match could not resume, and India was bowled out for 266 runs in 48.5 overs in the Palakelle International Stadium. Pakistan, inspired by Shahin Afridi’s performance, could not start their innings in Pallekele. India’s arch-rivals Pakistan had already qualified for the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup. With an easy win over Nepal, India can potentially face Pakistan for the second time in the Asia Cup.
