New Batch of Air Pods: According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple plans to launch new versions of its entry-level Air Pods and the $549 Air Pods Max headphones next year. Apple’s wireless headphone business has become quite lucrative, and in 2022, the wearables segment became Apple’s third-largest business, following iPhones and services.
Apple’s Plans for New Air Pods Models Next Year
Apple’s wireless headphone business has been raking in profits for the company. To keep the product fresh and in demand, regular updates are necessary. Apple’s wireless earbuds, known as Air Pods, have become widespread in large cities, offices, and schools since their announcement in 2016.
According to the report, Apple plans to release new versions of several Air Pod models next year. The $549 high-end Air Pods Max, known for their noise-cancelling feature, could refresh with USB-C charging ports and new colour options. The $129 entry-level Air Pods and the $169 mid-tier model are expected to undergo design changes, becoming smaller and, in some versions, adopting features from the “fourth-generation” model with noise cancellation.
Apple’s Air Pods Pro, priced at $249, received a minor update last year, including a model with a USB-C port. According to Bloomberg, these could see updates in 2025.
In the update, Apple enhanced the Air Pods Pro with a new software feature that uses artificial intelligence to automatically mute noise cancellation when the user starts talking, making it easier for users to leave their earbuds in all day.
Apple reported revenue of $41 billion for its wearables, home, and accessories product line, including Air Pods, in the financial year 2022. This figure also includes sales of the Apple Watch.
In 2022, the wearables segment became Apple’s third-largest business, following iPhones and services.
