BJP Member of Parliament Ramesh Bidhuri is facing criticism for his derogatory comments regarding the religion of BSP Member of Parliament Danish Ali during a discussion in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor condemned the offensive comments made by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Danish Ali in Parliament on Friday. He stated that such attitudes should be publicly rejected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat. Tharoor also alleged that BJP and RSS have “allowed such behavior” to be displayed.

“The widespread condemnation of Ramesh Bidhuri’s appalling conduct towards Danish Ali is welcome, and I stand with all those demanding appropriate action to ensure that such behavior is not repeated. But equally troubling is what it reveals about the mentality – a deep-seated hatred and disrespect for a certain section of our fellow Indians solely due to their beliefs,” said the Congress MP in a post on Twitter.

Tharoor also said that it is worrisome that this kind of venom “finds expression in many places and now even in Parliament” and called for Modi and Bhagwat to publicly disavow such attitudes. “Instead, they should pledge to unite India, not divide it. Otherwise, this venom will tear apart our society and nation,” he added.

Opposition Demands Action A video of the incident went viral on social media after Ramesh Bidhuri’s comments, leading to widespread outrage on social media and among politicians. His comments during a discussion on the Chandrayaan-3 mission in the Lok Sabha were removed from the records. Speaker Om Birla had warned him, although several MPs had demanded his suspension, calling his remarks “hateful speech.”

Meanwhile, Danish Ali termed the incident as “heart-wrenching” and said that if no action is taken against Bidhuri for his disrespectful comments in the Lok Sabha, he may consider leaving the membership of the house. Ali said, “This is no less than a hate-filled speech. This is hate-filled speech in the House.”

BJP President JP Nadda had issued a show-cause notice to Bidhuri following the incident, while BJP leaders, including Union Minister Rajnath Singh, expressed regret over the incident.

In the aftermath of the incident, Bidhuri faced widespread criticism from various quarters, with many demanding strict action against him.
