During discussions on the Chandrayaan-3 mission at a special session of Parliament yesterday, BJP Member of Parliament Ramesh Bidhuri hurled derogatory insults at Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Kunwar Danish Ali. This sparked strong demands for action from the opposition.
On Friday, during discussions on the ‘Success of Chandrayaan-3’ mission at the special session of Parliament, BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri directed offensive language towards Kunwar Danish Ali, a Member of Parliament from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). After Bidhuri made some comments in the lower house, opposition members called for stern action against him.
Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, took note of the objectionable remarks made by Bidhuri in the house on Friday and cautioned him to refrain from such behavior in the future. Officials cited PTI’s report. Immediately after making inappropriate comments, Bidhuri had apologized in the Parliament, expressing regret. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had also apologized in the house and stated, “If any member has been hurt by the comments, I apologize.”
Singh further stated that he had not heard the comments and requested the Speaker to remove them if they had caused offense to opposition members. Congress member Suresh, who was presiding, had already instructed officials to remove the comments.
However, the opposition has demanded strict action against Ramesh Bidhuri.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra urged Speaker Om Birla to take action against Bidhuri. In a post on Twitter, she wrote, “Mr. @ombirlakota – Start a special privilege motion against you without hesitation for calling me out. Facing a committee will be appreciated. But I’m asking you here and now – what action are you taking against @rameshbidhuri?”
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also demanded the suspension of Ramesh Bidhuri from the lower house. He said, “What Ramesh Bidhuri said about Danish Ali is highly condemnable. Criticism should be done in such a way that it is as minimal as possible. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has apologized, but it is not sufficient. I have never heard such language. This language should not be used inside or outside Parliament. This is not just an insult to Danish Ali but to all of us… It is a suitable case for suspension and he should face strict punishment.”
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader TKS Elangovan also criticized Bidhuri’s comments in the Lok Sabha. He questioned, “How can an MP call another MP a ‘terrorist’?”
These developments came during discussions on the Chandrayaan-3 mission, marking a turbulent beginning to the new session of Parliament.
