Parliament Proceedings | Minister Informs Lok Sabha About the Removal of 5 Crore MGNREGA Workers in 2022-23

Parliament Proceed The Ministry of Rural Development has stated that there has been a 247% increase in the number of job losses during the financial year 2022-23 compared to 2021-22.

On 25th July, Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh informed the Lok Sabha in a written response that during the financial year 2022-23, more than five crore workers were removed from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. This shows a 247% increase in job losses compared to the previous year, 2021-22.

The question was raised by Congress members Gaurav Gogoi and V.K. Nehru. Shrikandan, who asked the ministry to clarify if there was a 244.3% increase in job losses during 2022-23 compared to 2021-22, citing a fact published in The Hindu on 25th June.
