According to the police, a teacher named Farooq Ahmad was arrested on Saturday in Kathua, while the school’s principal is absconding.

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi commented on the Kathua incident on Sunday, where a teacher from a government school was arrested for allegedly beating a student of Class 10 for writing ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on the blackboard. “This hatred will drown everyone! This Muslim teacher is as full of hatred as Uttar Pradesh’s Trupta Tyagi. What fault do these children have that they are being punished?” said Priyanka Chaturvedi.

The incident took place at the Government Higher Secondary School (Bani). According to the police, a teacher named Farooq Ahmad was arrested on Saturday, while the school’s principal, who is accused of assaulting the minor in this case, is on the run. A senior police officer stated, “The principal is absconding, and efforts are being made to arrest him. Further investigation is also underway.”

“On August 25, the father of the minor student, Kuldeep Singh, filed a complaint, stating that his son had been beaten by the lecturer Farooq Ahmad of a government school. Higher Secondary School Bani’s Principal Mohammad Hafiz said, ‘I conveyed this to the police officers’,” he added.

He explained, “After the complaint, sections 323, 342, 504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act were invoked against the accused at the Police Station Bani.”

This incident follows significant outrage over a video shot at Neha Public School in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, where teacher Trupta Tyagi was allegedly seen repeatedly beating her Muslim co-student on the instigation of Hindu students, purportedly for “failing to complete homework for the past 2 months.” Tyagi, in her statement, mentioned that the video was presented in a misleading manner, as she had no communal intentions and acted solely as a teacher. Due to her physical disability, she was unable to slap the Muslim student like the other students.
