A viral video featuring a teacher from Uttar Pradesh (UP) encouraging Hindu students to beat a Muslim child has sparked outrage among social media users. The video, allegedly recorded by a teacher, depicts the teacher egging on Hindu students to slap a Muslim student. The incident has drawn a response from the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district. The Muzaffarnagar Police’s Twitter handle posted, “The in-charge of the Mansoorpur police station has been directed to investigate and take necessary action.”
In the viral video from Neha Public School in Muzaffarnagar, the teacher encourages Hindu students to physically assault a Muslim child. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has appealed to everyone not to share the video.
In the video, the teacher, apparently in a classroom setting, is caught on camera saying, “I have declared that all Mohammad children…” It is not yet clear how the video was shot, as it appears the teacher was engaged in conversation with someone and seemed to be aware of the situation.
As captured on the camera, one child is seen hitting another, possibly a Muslim child, while another child is crying. The teacher can be heard saying, “Hey, why are you hitting him softly? Hit him harder… come on, whose turn is it to hit him?” This incident highlights the assault on the Muslim child.
Subsequently, another child joins and physically assaults the Muslim child, prompted by the teacher’s encouragement.
Priyank Kanoongo, the head of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, urged people not to share videos of the incident on social media to protect the identity of the children involved. He wrote, “An incident has come to light where a teacher in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, instigated one child to be beaten by others in the class. Orders for action are being given after taking cognizance. I appeal to all not to share the child’s video, and provide information about such incidents via email to reveal the children’s identities and not become part of the crime.”
Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), expressed strong criticism of the incident and questioned why the father of the Muslim student subjected to the assault does not trust the justice system. He stated, “Yogi Adityanath is responsible for what happened to the child. Perhaps, you will call this offender to Lucknow and reward him. Many Muslim children silently endure such humiliation, there is no count of it. Calling Muslim children ‘jihadis’ is common in schools.”
Kanoongo, the head of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, advised Owaisi against sharing the video, as it could endanger the privacy of the children. He stated that the NCPCR would stand firmly for the child’s rights and ensure justice.
Reports claim that the video is from Neha Public School in Khubbapur village of Muzaffarnagar. The students are seen sitting on the floor in the video.
The father of the Muslim student stated that he doesn’t want to file a complaint with the police. He said, “We’ve reached a compromise midway, where I’ll withdraw my child from the school, and I won’t file a complaint with the police.”
