Last month, in a similar case, a person named Jitendra Shah was arrested by the Surat Crime Branch for allegedly tarnishing and defaming Patil’s image.
Pradipsinh Vaghela, who was considered the most influential General Secretary of the BJP in Gujarat, has resigned from his party position.
While the party’s top officials remain tight-lipped about the incident, reliable sources within the party have confirmed the news and stated that the BJP might soon clarify its stance on this matter.
Vaghela was also in charge of the party’s state headquarters in Gandhinagar.
This incident comes at a time when a purported rebellion is underway against Gujarat BJP President C.R. Patil in South Gujarat.
Earlier this week, in the beginning of this week, the Surat Crime Branch arrested three party workers from South Gujarat on charges of corruption and defaming Patil by accusing various party leaders of corruption in the allocation of departments. These arrests were made after a primary complaint filed by BJP MLA Sandeep Desai in Chorasi constituency.
This is the second occasion when a party General Secretary has lost a powerful position in the state organization under Patil’s leadership. Earlier this year in April, General Secretary Bhargav Bhatt was removed from the top position by the party’s high command. The position is still vacant.
The Gujarat BJP has four General Secretary positions. With Vaghela’s resignation, there are now only two General Secretaries left in the party, Rajni Patel and Vinod Chavda.”
